Infrared heating and health aspects.
How do conventional heating systems actually work?
In most cases, heating installations are still driven by fossil fuels which in turn either heat up the air directly or do this by heating up water which is then pumped through a radiator which in its turn heats the air that flows past is. Because the temperature of the air around you increases you'll experience a feeling of comfort. But by increasing the temperature in the room or volume, the air rises and starts flowing, thus creating a constant stream of air which we call convection.
Sustainability starts with you, start now!Air circulation? Healthy. No!
When the air in your room is heating up because of the increasing temperature of the radiators this causes the air to rise. When it reaches the ceiling it cools down again and starts to flow downwards again. This is an ongoing process and causes air circulation: hot air rises, cold air drops. Because of this movement dust and other particles present in the room are sucked into this stream and start flowing through the air as well. As you might expect, this is not a very good consequence, especially for people with allergic or astmatic symptoms.
Heating with infrarood.
Infared panels mainly produce infrared radiation. That means the heat is transferred directly to objects and people, without the air as a carrier. All the objects with mass in their turn "absorb" this energy, heat up and will release this energy back into the room as well. In other words: infrared radiation does not heat up the air, but heats up mass. This greatly reduces the amount of air circulation that occurs. A healthy environment to live and work without convection is quickly realised. Another advantage of infrared heating is a very constant and evenly distributed way of heating, reducing the temperature differences that sometimes occur in different parts of rooms and volumes. Because of the direct radiation and convection reduction the heat is evenly distributed across the room. As a result most people lower the thermostat setting with 1,5 to 2 degrees Celcius compared to conventional heating systems while perceiving the same comfort.
